My new apartment is pretty small. Sure, it's big enough for one relatively small sized person (that would be me!), but somehow, it's seemingly impossible to find room for a lamp to fit next to my couch. What was I going to do? Live in darkness for the next 11.5 months? Defenestrate my beloved Ikea couch and sit on the floor beneath the glow of a standup lamp?
Instead, after some careful consideration and much Internet perusing, I bought two of these pendant lampshades (plus some basic cord kits). They hang from the ceiling! So they don't take up any floor space whatsoever. They're sophisticated--the shimmery color is neutral so it doesn't clash with my furniture, but still pretty enough to make a statement (such as "I am a lovely lamp"). And because their height is adjustable, I'm able to avoid that dreaded overhead lighting that literally makes me want to vomit ughghghghgh. Genius, I know.
