"Transexy!" reads the casting call posted to its Instagram. Transgender or transexual persons over the age of 16 were invited to stop by American Apparel's Chelsea location last Saturday for their chance to become a model for the brand.
American Apparel has used transgender models in the past, including former America's Next Top Model contestant Isis King; the company is also known for its line of pro-LGBTQ t-shirts.
But despite the effort to further diversify its ads, HuffPo and some commenters on the Instagram point out that AA should have said "trangender" as opposed to "trangendered"--an important distinction to the trans-community.
Still, it's always nice to see a brand as big as American Apparel embracing models of all kinds. And it looks like using social media, like Instagram, is cemented as the new way to find fresh talent.
