An actress has been chosen to play Donatella Versace in a new TV biopic--and it's not Maya Rudolph (damnit!).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gina Gershon will star in House of Versace, based on the book by Wall Street Journal reporter Deborah Balls, House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder, and Survival. It focuses on Donatella's former drug problems and her rise in the company after the murder of her brother Gianni (played by Enrico Colantoni).

Gershon, perhaps best known for her role in the campy film Showgirls, seems like a surprising choice to play the uber tan, ice-blonde designer. Needless to say, we can't wait to see her in hair and makeup! The TV movie will also star Raquel Welch as Donatella and Gianni's Aunt Lucia, and will be directed by Sara Sugarman, who was behind one of Lindsay Lohan's lesser appreciated films, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.

It's produced by Lifetime, home to Liz and Dick and the recent Anna Nicole Smith flick, so you know it's going to be full of so-bad-you-can't-look-away amazingness. House of Versace premieres October 5, and will be followed by an hour-long documentary about Gianni called Versace: Beyond the Headlines.
