Leave it to Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen to create a collection chock full of killer basics to close out New York Fashion Week. Their contemporary Elizabeth and James line has grown in recent seasons to include everything from a newly-announced fragrance to handbags, jeans, footwear, sunglasses, and jewelry. While their ultra-luxe line, The Row, went all resort-boho, E and J kept things calm and collected with clean day-to-night variations.
You could find hints of the Olsens' style transformation throughout the years in many of the collection’s pieces. Two looks harkened back to the appeal of MK and A’s year at NYU with loose fitting, torn-to-the-nines vintage denim boyfriend jeans and a lust-worthy, repurposed ankle-length jean skirt. Other looks embodied their latest state of affairs, with beautifully streamlined black-and-white modern-day suiting and minimal evening cocktail dresses. The collection’s high points, however, were found in the safari-inspired looks: built on soft silken jackets and ultra-washed cargo skirts in muted green and yellow tones. Always a winner: the accessories shined with innovative-yet-refined mid-heel sandals made of vinyl and bachetta, along with calfhair slingback sandals in pale pink. Also a highlight were the rubber-topped chainlink bracelets and necklaces which topped off many of the looks.
