Let’s have a party! That was the message Alber Elbaz seemed to be trumpeting at his Spring 2014 show. An array of colorful lamé looks dominated the runway, from a deep-pink flapper dress to a copper-colored painter’s jumpsuit. But the material looked best when used in cocktail attire, particularly on a micro-pleated pencil skirt and strapless ruffled top that was cinched at the waist peplum style. A pale pink wiggle dress with a bustier top was snazzy, too.
Elbaz also worked quite a bit with a material that looked like neoprene—making a set of dresses strong and commanding. The most notable was a form-fitting, below-the-knee number with a thick belt and a halter top with a twist. (The sweetheart neckline was modernized with sharp angles.)
Lanvin’s accessories are always interesting, and this season was no different. The conversation piece was a black leather trashbag-style tote. The models carried it nonchalantly down the runway as if it contained a carton of cigarettes—or yesterday’s empty champagne bottles.
