Marni Belts it Out for Spring
Just about every look in Consuelo Castiglioni's latest collection for Marni featured a belt and a visor. The quirky accessories gave the models a tourist vibe (the belts resembling fanny packs) and the whole collection a casual, real life feel.
The belts also served to nip in the waist in a collection that featured quite a bit of volume with ruffles and other embellishments that were not unlike those used by Thomas Maier at Bottega Veneta the day before. Though the colors, prints and some Japanese-inspired shapes made this collection unmistakably Marni. Many jackets had straight-up kimono shapes, while everything from dresses to tops featured a voluminous, round shoulder and sleeve (like a kimono would). Beautiful painterly florals featured throughout. Skirts and pants were billowing and romantic.
The show closed with a series of super luxe, embellished looks in sporty shapes; it was a study in contradictions, and Castiglioni at her best.
