Celebrities love themselves some Monique Lhuillier dresses for the red carpet and the designer loves them right back—always sending beautifully detailed, ultimately flattering and best-dressed-round-up-friendly designs down the runway. Spring 2014 was no different, with a collection “dedicated to delicately balanced textures, innovative layering and sophisticated ease,” according to the show notes.
Plenty of red carpet-ready floor-length styles were in the mix (of course)—-there was flowing Grecian-draped ombré chiffon, soft floral appliqued organza and sculptural brushstroke-printed silk-tufted skirting—-but the collection also showed a sportier sensibility, speaking to the “ease” of the inspiration.
Bold, eye-popping corals, fuchsias and reds jumped out from the counterbalance of gold beaded champagnes and creams. Especially fun: the strapless poppy-hued jumpsuit and the long-sleeve coral romper with an arty floral-embroidered collar. But the pairing of an orchid silk linen bandeau crop-top with a billowing persimmon draped ball gown skirt really created the perfect mash up of ease and elegance.
The runway show was an opportunity to show off the designer’s newly launched shoe line, too. The upcoming season’s offerings include a high-heeled take on gladiator sandals, round-studded ankle strappies (very Valentino Rock Stud-esque) and two-tone barely-there styles.
Of course, Lhuillier also had a front row packed with starlets eyeing their next red carpet dress: Maggie Grace, Ashley Madekwe, Emmy Rossum, 90210’s Jessica Lowndes (whom I thought was Jessica Pare at first—Fashion Week delirium), Stacy Keibler, Rose McGowan and Molly Sims. Phew!
