You know that cool, always-tan girl with the perfect body who looks like she spends every day at the beach despite living in New York City? That's the girl who will be wearing this Peter Som collection next spring.
There were references to the oceanic everywhere--from the many midriff-baring tops, to the neoprene sweatshirts, to very pretty prints that looked like ocean waves. Even raw-hem shorts felt like a sophisticated take on the denim cutoff.
Still, we wouldn't advise surfing in Som's wares. A range of lovely, elegant-yet-easy dresses--perfect for an upscale beachside dinner or cocktail party--kept things from getting too casual.
Still, the show had a laid back, care-free vibe that only seems possible at spring shows. A vibe Som himself gave off when he took the runway for his bow and instead of waving, pulled out his iphone and took what we're pretty sure was a selfie (couldn't tell if his camera was flipped). Easily one of our favorite moments of fashion week so far.
