Forget New York fashion week. This morning, Duluth, Georgia became the country's newest (if unlikely) fashion hot spot--at least for a couple of hours.
According to Racked, Phillip Lim's hotly anticipated Target collection already hit shelves at the mega-retailer's outpost in the Atlanta suburb. The collection doesn't officially launch until September 15, which means that this tiny Georgia county got access to the goods almost two weeks in advance.
A Target spokesperson confirmed to us that "select pieces of the collection were in a few of our stores," though he declined to say where the other stores were. To put things in perspective, Target has nearly 18,000 stores--so this handful of stores is truly a small percentage.
"Obviously this was an operational oversight," spokesperson Joshua Thomas said, adding that they are working with their store team "to correct it." In other words, to rip those covetable goodies from the floor.
"So if there are any fashionistas from New York headed to Duluth, Georgia right now to get their hands on the collection early--I apologize but they won't find it at the Target store." According to Thomas, all the merch has "likely already been removed."
"We know how excited people are about the collection but they're just going to wait a little bit longer," said Thomas.
As for if any of the pieces at the Duluth store were actually purchased, Thomas said, "that's something I'm looking into."
Keep your eyes peeled on eBay to see if any rogue Philip Lim for Target pieces show up. And if you're in the Duluth area, you may want to make a quick trip to Target, before all those preview pieces are taken from the shelves.
