Lebanese designer and couturier Reem Acra had her mind on parties and glitter--both objects of national pride in her hometown of Beirut, considered to be the Paris of the Middle East.
Acra's summer collection had flavors of disco glam, flapper chic and red carpet va-voom: tiny lame goddess dresses, silver polka dots on chiffon, floor-length gowns with bias-cut bustiers, lavish embroideries and sequins galore. She also added flashes of bright color: a rather unfortunate orange and poppy houndstooth print and a bright orange suede wrapdress--with a gold belt of course.
The stars of the night were the dramatic, fully sequined gowns--particularly the ivory number with pastel touches and the tulle dress in black and gold. Expect to see those on the backs of Acra's A-list clientele (which includes Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez and Halle Berry) soon.
