When most best friends get together, all they make is memories (and a few really good inside jokes). When BFFs Gwyneth Paltrow and Stella McCartney get together, they make a full-fledged clothing collection--with prices starting at $795. This is definitely not one of those 'Stars They're Just Like Us' moments.
The collaboration between McCartney and Goop was announced last week--though it was shrouded in mystery. Today, WWD not only reveals the nature of the partnership (clothes) but gives us a sneak peek at the collection. Stella McCartney x Goop is part of Paltrow's Goop Collection--the e-commerce component to her site that launched in September 2012--and is meant to be full of investment pieces.
“I tend to go for more classic pieces,” Paltrow told WWD. “I wanted to make things that you’d leave to your daughter. My audience loves an investment piece and nothing will last longer. We could have done some brand-new trend collection. For the first time, we wanted to work on something that was very easy to understand.”
“We sat down and talked about it a lot and it was very considered,” McCartney added. “The outcome is designs that are very timeless... Gwyneth was a huge part of that. This is a big reflection of her life. The pieces are very subtle.”
Those pieces include a classic black blazer, gray knit jumpsuit, black jean and black wool trouser. Paltrow didn't so much as help design the line, as she "curated" it.
"The role I want in a partnership is curating a collection as opposed to taking a designer point of view," Paltrow said. "I can tweak a blazer and make it the perfect blazer.”
And it sounds like Stella McCartney x Goop might be an ongoing thing.
“I would collaborate again,” Paltrow said. “We’ll see how this goes and we’ll build on it,” McCartney said.
