Fashionista Editors Reveal Their Fashion Week Essentials

Fashion week is finally here, and we've been busy stocking up on the things that get us from 9 AM shows to 9 PM parties.

Most people mark the end of summer by the last barbecue or buying back to school supplies. Here at Fashionista, we know fall is almost here when the invites come pouring in and the sidewalks are crammed with lithe models on their way to castings--in other words, the start of fashion week!

So we've been busy stocking up on the things that get us from 9 AM shows to 9 PM parties. From peanut butter to effortless flats, these are the items we couldn't make it through the shows without.

Oh, and there's black. Lots and lots of black.

Shop the Story:

Leah Chernikoff, Editorial Director

Steven Alan Dress: This is my ideal back to school dress and going to fashion week is pretty much the same as going back to school in the fashion world.

Salvatore Ferragamo Flats: Classic, versatile, and so easy to walk in. Sold.

Chic Buds iPhone Charger: So when my phone runs out of juice I don't have to scramble for an outlet.

Mansur Gavriel Tote: A bag big enough to carry everything--including spare shoes and a laptop.

Klorane Dry Shampoo: If it's good enough for Karl Lagerfeld, it's good enough for me.

Ck One Color Pure in Little Liar: I'm always looking for a good red lip--everyone goes on and on about Mac Ruby Woo and Nars Heat Wave but lately I've been loving this one from Calvin Klein. Plus it's called Little Liar, which is adorable.

Hayley Phelan, Senior Editor

TopShop Flats: I bring foldable ballet flats that can be easily smushed into a purse in case of shoe emergencies.

Kenzo Pouch: Pouches are lifesavers. I try to put all my essentials--as in wallet, keys, iPhone--in one and then that way I can change purses easily. Plus, this one doubles as a clutch!

Rolex: A men's Rolex classes up every outfit. I never take it off.

Vintage Levi's: I've been living in my vintage Levi's all summer and I don't intend to stop for NYFW.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment: Keeps my lips moisturized, and gives me just a hint of color.

Cheryl Wischhover, Beauty Contributor

Asos Dress: I always get a new dress for Fashion Week (it's nice to have an excuse) and this year's is flattering, inexpensive, and is printed with a design called "grunge animal." Win.

Estee Lauder Cooling Eye Illuminator: For when my eyes are decidedly less than luminous.

Loeffler Randall booties: I definitely have a type when it comes to boots--black and clunky. Just bought these and will debut them this week. Comfy! Studded!

Mophie juice pack powerstation: I don't know what took me so long to get one of these. If you see me, I'll hook your iPhone up, too--it can charge 2 at once! My phone dies after a few hours every fashion season because of Instagram overuse.

Hershey's Caramel Kisses: I just threw a new bag in my freezer, and will toss a handful into my tote every morning for sustenance and a little chewy dose of sanity throughout the day.

Dhani Mau, Associate Editor

Band of Outsiders Jacket: Nothing like a smart-looking blazer to make you feel important and editor-y.

TopShop Heels: These are everything I'm looking for in a fashion week shoe: Easy to walk in, stylish, and I'm pretty sure everyone else won't have them.

Orla Kiely Phone Case: Gotta have a cute cell phone with which to snap blurry runway shots.

Emergen-C: So I don't get sick. I already kinda feel like I am, ugh.

MacBook Air: This laptop is amazing and weighs nothing. You won't hear a single complaint out of me about having to carry it around all week.

Nora Crotty, Assistant Editor

River Island Chelsea Boots: Cool and mod and very New Yawk. These also remind me of Double Stuf Oreos, which is never a bad thing.

Prescription Wayfarers: I wear contacts like they're going outta style (they aren't FYI), but my eyes tend to get tired towards the end of a full day at the ole' com-pu-ter. Since Fashion Week means working overtime... these guys will most likely be making multiple appearances.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Shameless Bold Blush in Outspoken: I doubt this color even flatters me but I just thought it was soooo pretty.

Bliss Total Bliss 'Zen' at Work: I have no idea if this actually does anything, but I don't drink coffee or smoke cigarettes and sometimes it's fun to pretend you have an addiction that helps you to function in society.

OPI Polish in Ginger Bells: This orangey-browny mix is definitely my standby color for fall. Kind of like dying leaves but better.

Tiny Slim Jims: To hoard in my pocketbook at all times. Because, UM, YUM.

Tyler McCall, Editorial Assistant

Gap 1969 Black Jeans: If I wear them multiple days in a row, will anyone care? Because that's almost definitely happening.

Aquaphor Lip Repair: I'm currently on an Accutane regimen which means my lips are constantly dried out. I'll be keeping one of these babies on me at all times. It's no NARS lipstick (oh, how I miss you matte lipstick), but it is a lifesaver.

Burberry Abbott Crossbody: It's important to have a hands-free bag, because few things are more annoying than trying to juggle a recorder, your phone, and a bag. I have an old stand-by, but I'd love this Burberry one too.

Juice Press Lucky 7 Juice: This stuff is so good and would be perfect for keeping actual nutrients in my body. I should probably just buy a case of it.

Ray-Ban Clubmasters: To hide the under-eye bags--because there will be bags.

Circus by Sam Edelman Booties: These rub my ankles but I'm going to wear them anyway. Yea, I know, I'm a real trooper.

Lauren Sherman, Editor-at-Large

Mansur Gavriel Bag: Will fit my laptop, bicycle helmet, and everything else. The pink lining is what makes it, though.

Chloe Flats: I got these because they're both fancy and practical. And on sale.

Tarte LipSurgence: A friend introduced these to me over the weekend--they're incredibly matte and moisturizing at once. Which I didn't think was possible.

Simone Rocha Dress: I need some Simone Rocha in my life.

Bern Bike Helmet: You just have to have one, so buy a cute one.

CitiBike: I plan on biking as much as I can.

David Yi

GRAZ sunnies: This Australian sunglass line is only sold in one store in all of Manhattan. And I'm not telling you where. Okay, fine. It was at B_Space in the Lower East Side. They're practical, classic, but also, dare I say--edgy!

Joomi Lim: It's no secret that I am constantly Instagramming my skull rings, spiked jewelry, or anything that Joomi produces. (Nicola Formichetti also gave me many compliments saying he, too, was obsessed with my Joomi Lim jewelry!) She makes punk cool again and I need my spiked rings just in case anyone in the tents is out of line!

Vita Fede Bracelet: Cynthia Sakai's cono bracelets always--I mean ALWAYS--get me compliments from anyone and everyone. When I'm trying to look like a fashion-person, I know to put these on and I'm instantly dressed up.

DKNY x Opening Ceremony: I have a soft spot for DKNY. Not only because I'm friendly with the brand but because I really do love it. And how perfect are the shirts and hoodies (and that onesie!) in their collaboration line with Opening Ceremony? I just purchased the one with the humongous letters on the front and back in black. Yes, it's going to make a statement. And you betcha I'm wearing this to this season's DKNY show.

Rik Villa: Button-ups made out of um, handkerchiefs? You got that right! It seems like handkerchiefs and paisley is making a comeback and I intend to wear the shizz outta Rik Villa for fashion week!

KTZ: Now more than ever street style--like, the real street kind, not fashion kind--is becoming essential to any outfit. I'm completely obsessed with anything and everything that Sasko Bezovsi designs and am rocking all things him this season.

Balmain jogging trousers: Did I splurge while I was in Austria? I sure did! Why? The price of these trousers were in Euros so I totally tricked myself into buying them. Do I regret it? Never!

Anna Deutsch

Zara Ankle Boots: Right now I'm in a major non-heels phase, and while for many ladies fashion week is a time to dress up, for me it's just so much running around that I just have to stick to flats most of the time. I love that these ankle boots are masculine yet have a bit of height.

Rag & Bone Shorts: I am all about showing leg as long as possible! The weather is always lovely during September, so that shouldn't be a problem. These Rag & Bone shorts are polished enough for the Lincoln Center, but totally comfy and sporty at the same time.

Illesteva Sunnies: Sunglasses are a must. I love these mirrored lenses. Perfect for hiding fatigue, hangover, blatant gawking at people, etc.

Kenzo Tote: I like to be able to cart around all possible necessities (MacBook Air, change of shoes, sweater, snacks) with ease. This is a totally NYFW-worthy tote if ever there was one.

MAC Lipstick in Rebel: I dress pretty understated, so amping up my look lipstick is my new trick. A this bold MAC hue to help will help breath life into my low-key looks.

Zara Dress: I will most definitely be wearing white after Labor Day. I love the structure of this dress. It will work with tomboy flats for day, and look hot with killer heels for parties (if I can be bothered).

Liana Satenstein

Robert Clergerie Kicks: For all of you that love avant-garde shoes with a chunky heel, these are it. I wear a pair of vintage red flatforms on a day-to-day basis. I might get them refurbished (does this even apply to shoes?), before Fashion Week. Or not.

Nacho Cheese Doritos: I get hungry. I usually don’t eat Doritos but it's that time of the year again, so I don't feel so bad. You could probably spot me huddled like a greasy gremlin over my computer, peeping, and downing a fat bag of these.

MAC Lipstick: I've had this tube for so long, they've probably discontinued this color by now. It still does the trick and gives me last minute contrast on my pallid, Doritos-streaked face.

YSL Lip Stain: I don't know the color because the label has disintegrated. Basically, I put it over the MAC Lipstick to set it in (so I think) and for a deep plum tone.

Aspirin: I get tired and my brain is fried. Excuse me while I take a break to go mist myself over at the Lincoln Center fountain and pop acetaminophen (generic!).

Clinique Happy: I used to steal this from my mom in middle school (never was a Sweet Pea scent girl). I can't really smell it anymore--pretty sure I come into work wafting like a blanket of citrusy flowers.

Kibwe Chase Marshall

Men's Camisole: This fashion week, I'm gonna make camisoles happen for men...or (during my subway morning commute) freeze trying.

The Teva Men's Original Universal in Black: So bad they're good, these sandals will allow me to pound that pavement from Milk Studios to Lincoln Center in style (yep, if I have a lengthy enough break between shows I actually do that trek on foot!). Bonus: If I wanna swappem' out for my suede Repetto jazz oxfords, they are lightweight and discreetly stashable in my bag.

Starbucks "Evolution Fresh" Sweet Greens and Lemon Juice: This refreshing salad-cum-lemonade falls toward the decidedly healthy side of my bipolar dietary habits. On the other side one will locate my penchant for Bon Chon fried chicken wings.

Drop Crotch Sweatpants: I sew these myself using vintage sweatshirts (I kid you not!) I find at thrift stores. I get a kick out of knowing that each pair is uniquely one-of-a-kind and owned by yours truly and yours truly alone.

Jennifer Chun Leather Accented Denim Jacket: Jennifer's a dear friend and her collection is really starting to take off. I love how this jacket will work with pretty much my entire wardrobe...the jean jacket just might be this show season's perfecto!

Shirine Saad

Rick Owens Leather Jacket: It's warm, stylish, and goes with almost everything. I'm from the Mediterranean and my greatest fear in life is to freeze.

St Dupont Pen: My little sister used to work at St Dupont, and I always pull out this elegant pen she gave me with great pride.

L'Ombre dans l'Eau: Running in the subway, lining up for cabs and elbowing our way to the Golden Quote: Sometimes even fashion reporters get filthy. For pick me ups this heavenly scent comes in an elegant roll on and fits perfectly in my tiny purse.

Laura Mercier Undercover Pot: This genius kit covers undereye circles, blemishes and shine in one discreet touch, thus maintaining the essential illusion that writing 2 AM reviews post-after party is actually glamorous.

New York Times Subscription: There's barely time to breathe, think, or smoke a cigarette--but I like to keep my New York Times with me to catch up on what's going on in the real world.

Fawnia Soo Hoo

Sam Edelman Boots: A cute pair of flat ankle boots that go with everything. I'm usually running around the city and chasing down a quote, so I have to be mobile. Plus I get grumpy when my feet hurt. I have a pair of Surface to Air ones I got at a sample sale and they look kinda like these,

Smuckers Peanut Butter: I'll be eating a lot of peanut butter on some sort of carb item—my choice on-the-run or stuffing-my-face-while-frantically-typing-up-my-show-review meal.

Nicholas Heels: And a pair of fancy shoes, just in case. I bought a pair from Cos in Hong Kong this summer and they look like these.

Gaiam Yoga Mat: Even if I'm crazed, I will find a way to go to yoga or run in the park. Otherwise, again, I'll get crabby.

By Terry Ligne Blackstar: This eyeliner will not come off. It's like a TATTOO. For some reason the pigment and precision-lining is better on the Ocean Spirit teal color than the black. Plus it's pretty.

Kiehl's BB Cream: It totally evens out the skin and it's a nice one-step skincare process, which is key because I get lazy as Fashion Week goes on.
