To say that the crop top is back doesn't seem right since it never really went away. It has been on trend for the past few seasons (the summer of the crop top only just ended!), and so it continues at shows like Richard Chai Love, Peter Som, and Gregory Parkinson. Of course, designers are giving us variations on the trend, and for that we are grateful. Instead of simply bearing your belly button, Richard Chai suggests pairing it with a high-waisted pant, or even forgoing exposed skin altogether by layering over a dress like at Tadashi Shoji. It's nice to know that rock hard abs aren't always a pre-requisite.
Trendspotting: Floral and Plaid
With the '90s being the decade of inspiration du jour for designers in spring 2014, one comes to expect some typical '90s staples. Case in point, Birkenstocks, overalls, and the slip dress, but what would the '90s be without florals and plaid? Paired together, they are showing up on the runways and thankfully not always in the typical grungy fashion.
