Birthday girl Kim Kardashian just got quite the ringing endorsement from Carine Roitfeld. The CR Fashion Book editor-in-chief spoke to Time Out (via InStyle UK) recently about her decision to feature the then-pregnant Kardashian on the cover of her third issue, comparing her to post-mortem Chanel No.5 spokesmodel (and eternal film icon) Marilyn Monroe.
"First of all she’s beautiful--and in fashion, that is a talent you know," Roitfeld said of Kardashian. "She was also a very sweet person, a hard worker. You don’t see her in parties drinking loads of alcohol. She’s controversial," she explained, "but so was Marilyn Monroe and I always like controversial people. I hope the issue will be a good souvenir for her and her baby.” Cute.
Roitfeld also hinted that the faux lash-loving reality TV star was actually a lot more low-key at the Karl Lagerfeld-lensed shoot than one might presume. "She was brave," said Roitfeld. "She had one guy for hair, one guy for makeup--no extensions or lashes--and for her it must have been like being naked, and she accepted everything."
Even the fashion-forward get-ups. "I’ve never seen her in a Comme des Garcons jumpsuit or a basketball jacket," Roitfeld continued, "but she said yes to everything. She was the easiest model we’ve had. And when we put a mask on her face, she didn’t say anything." If we were in the mood to make a joke about someone calling Kim Kardashian 'easy,' we'd do it right here and now. But we're feeling nice today. Forget the haters, 'cause somebody Carine Roitfeld loves ya, Kimmy. And you were right to trust her. Plus, it's your birthday!
