Last night, the first-ever YouTube Music Awards were filmed live in New York City, and it featured appearances by some of the music industry's (and the Internet's) most popular names, including M.I.A., Eminem, Lady Gaga and Avicii.
If you're a fan of HBO's Girls, you already know that the show's creator Lena Dunham knows her way around a warehouse rave, so we were delighted to see that she wrote a live-action skit around the Swedish producer's biggest hits of the year. The choose-your-own-adventure-style sketch stars model Dree Hemingway as a dazed raver who has a bone to pick with Vanessa Hudgens' character, who is the DJ's love interest.
The video, which was directed by fashion industry favorite Spike Jonze, also features Michael Shannon as Avicii. Despite the fun cast and soundtrack, Dunham's skit doesn't have the happy ending that you might expect.
