Those kids in the back room at Victoria's Secret sure know what they're doing: Year after year for its annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, the lingerie megabrand manages to string together a slew of feathers, rhinestones, shoestring undergarments and pop acts into a massive spectacle. The event is eagerly anticipated by millions the world over -- and 2013's production, which filmed last night in New York, was no different.
The themes of the show varied, from a nudie history lesson about London to a scantily clad shipwreck and, of course, a snowy winter wonderland -- the kind where lacy underpants are all you need to avoid coming down with hypothermia.
Many of the outfits (can we call them outfits?) felt a lot more toned down this time -- several featured corsetry and capes and not much else, while others looked like store-bought bra-and-panty sets accessorized with maybe a torn bed sheet and dish washing gloves. But others were as over-the-top and befuddling as ever, particularly in the emoticon-themed Pink segment of the show. There was even a huge back piece in the shape of a smiley face that seemed to be grinning over a bare ass. And side-crotch -- there was lots of that, too.
Taylor Swift -- who honestly wouldn't have looked out of place in a pair of wings herself -- was the standout performer of the evening (Fall Out Boy, girl group Neon Jungle, and balladeer A Great Big World also played). The crowd freaked when Swift got flirty with the Angels (namely Karlie Kloss and Lily Aldridge -- see video below, along with the finale). The one person who kept his cool was attendee Adam Levine, who only seemed vaguely engaged in the event when his fiancee Behati Prinsloo was walking. Oh, and Valentino Garavani was there, too, glowing bright orange in the front row and brushing faux snow from his hair.
