Do you have sad, bare lips and $50 burning a hole in your pocket? Get ready to pucker up, because there are some gorgeous new luxury lipstick options on the market right now.
I'm not going to tell you that spending $30+ on lipstick is something you should do every day, but I am very good at rationalizing purchases. So, here's why you might want to consider dropping some coin on a nice lippy this season:
• Think of it as another accessory. The packaging on some of these is so gorgeous, no one will think you're tacky when you take one out to reapply at the Thanksgiving table.
• It's better than spending $500 on shoes, and the pleasure pay-off is just as high. (OK, maybe this one is a stretch.)
• It's the only way you're getting Tom Ford anywhere near your lips.

Poppy Queen Velvet Rope Collection
Poppy Queen's lipsticks are normally in the affordable range, but founder Poppy King decided to kick things up a notch this fall with her new Velvet Rope Collection. After years of searching for a formula that would deliver a concentrated color pay-off with one coat and yet still feel like nothing, she finally found it. I've been wearing Entourage (the wine shade) for a few months now and it's incredible. The case is heavy and gold with a nifty magnetic locking system, but most importantly, the peppermint oil-scented formula stays put and doesn't cake and flake. (5 shades)

Armani Rouge Ecstasy Lipstick:
Giorgio Armani is billing this as the first-ever CC (as in the now-ubiquitous CC cream) lipstick. It's meant to soften your lips like a lip balm, while also giving you a decent amount of color. It delivers on both of these promises, and the packaging is to DIE for -- the bright red tube makes me so happy. That alone is worth at least $20 towards the final cost. (36 shades)

Clé de Peau Beauté Extra Rich Lipstick
Clé de Peau launched this incredible lipstick line in the fall, and its fall/winter collection features three different textures: silk (glossy), satin (sheer color), and velvet (semi-matte). Everything about this, from the super-moisturizing formula to the faceted bullet, screams fancy. This is the lipstick of a lady. The velvet texture feels the most modern to me. (30 shades)

Tom Ford Fall 2013 and Holiday
Tom Ford launched his entire beauty line on the strength of his lipsticks and they continue to be some of the best out there. They're super moisturizing and the "Bruised Plum" (left) is the shade of the season. The lipstick consistently goes on smoothly and the color is not shy. (4 fall shades/2 winter shades in addition to permanent collection)

Chanel's Rouge Allure velvet finish lipstick is matte perfection. The color has depth and doesn't look too flat, and the finishes aren't drying. (3 shades in the winter Nuit Infinie de Chanel collection, in addition to permanent collection)
