The pre-holiday shopping race is over, but the post-Christmas sales and their joyous, Everything Must Go vibes are in high gear. Luckily, the discounts aren’t limited to department and chain stores -- your favorite boutique is also likely to have taken out the big red markdown pen.
Just in case your grandmother didn’t know you lust over Phillip Lim but did realize an AmEx gift card always fits, we called local favorites around the country to get a sample of the brands on their discount racks, as well as specific pieces they think are particularly worth snapping up. We also asked what items customers couldn’t get enough of in the lead-up to Christmas, a decent predictor of what the cool kids on your block will be sporting in January. While many stores offer their sales merchandise on the web (a good thing since online shopping surged Christmas Day) some have only limited or no online sales selection. By George in Austin, for instance, has markdowns of up to 60 percent on coveted lines like Celine, Dries Van Noten and The Row, but to get them you’ll have to inquire the old-fashioned way, over the phone or in store.
