'It-Brit' designer Erdem Moralioglu won this year's Red Carpet Award at the British Fashion Awards, and the honor was well-deserved. Ladies like Sienna Miller, Michelle Williams, Lena Dunham and even Kate Middleton have all made best-dressed lists this year in his feminine confections. And with a Pre-Fall offering as lovely as this one, just in time for awards season, we expect that red carpet dominance to continue well into 2014.
Since it's an in-between season, there weren't a ton of new ideas. It certainly wasn't the departure Spring 2014 was. There was plenty of delicate lace, pretty embroidery, stiff brocade and chaste necklines. Though, there was a futuristic metallic sheen to some pieces, as well as an appealing moodiness in the deep burgundy used throughout. The offerings were also a bit more varied. While there were plenty of red carpet-ready gowns and cocktail frocks, we also fell in love with some schoolgirl-inspired separates, like pleated skirts and vests and sweaters layered over turtlenecks.
While we liked the dramatic, experimental direction Erdem went in for spring, we can't help but like this return to his classically feminine aesthetic.
