While Team USA went the traditional route with its made-in-America Ralph Lauren uniforms for the opening and closing ceremonies at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, the medal stand uniforms that Nike designed -- and recently unveiled to the public -- are anything but.
The winning US athletes will stand proudly in one of Nike's pieces, including a futuristic silver jacket with red-to-blue ombré lettering on the back, paired with very on-trend FlyKnit sneakers. The sleek items are just as high-tech as they look: The jacket retains body heat while maximizing ventilation, and the FlyKnits have synthetic wool mixed into their threads to help keep the Olympians' feet nice and warm.
Perhaps the most unique aspects of the uniforms are the special details that are only visible to the athletes, including red, blue, and gold satin stitching, as well as the words "land of the free" and "home of the brave" hidden inside their shoes and jackets, shown below.
