Sneaker fanatics are about to have something new to go crazy over. Especially if those fanatics also happen to be fashion fans. Nike has tapped a Paris-based couturier for its next limited edition collaboration. Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci, to be exact. The designer is working with the sportswear juggernaut on a line dubbed Nike RT, which will be a collection of footwear set to debut this spring, a Nike rep confirmed to us.
While Nike has done innumerable collaborations with a wide range of entities, from rappers to athletes to streetwear brands to artists, Tisci, a high-end fashion designer, is a bit of a departure. However, his designs frequently take inspiration from streetwear culture, and his sportier tees and sweatshirts have become a hit on the scene. So in a way, Tisci is probably the best person to pluck out of Paris fashion for a collab.
We are curious what Tisci's pal Kanye West would have to say about it. West famously spoke out against Nike, with whom he has collaborated, in a few of his rants late last year, complaining that Nike wouldn't pay him royalties and how everyone at the company had "just let go of culture." Ultimately West left Nike to collaborate with Adidas, though he later apologized.
