As Marc Jacobs' fall collection hit the runway, something happened that very nearly upstaged the beautiful clothes -- Keeping Up with the Kardashians star and newly minted model Kendall Jenner strutted her stuff in a completely sheer top.
It was a move we suspected was coming after Jenner Instagrammed a photo of herself with Jacobs' pal and collaborator, Love Magazine's editor in chief Katie Grand -- but the move wasn't without haters. Many hit the Internet to complain that Jenner only got her spot because of her, ahem, connections, prompting sister Khloe Kardashian to tweet in her defense ("She's too dope for you 2 understand! Yall would trade places with her in a second! The hate is real! Lol bye haters! #ModelLife #Simple," she said, adding, "Basic bitches NOT wanted").
For her part, Grand seems pretty excited about Jenner, so excited that on Friday she handed Jenner the reigns to Love's Instagram. So we reached out to Grand to ask her about the takeover. But Grand did us one better -- she gave us the scoop on how the pair first met and why she signed her up to be a Marc Jacobs exclusive.
"When we are casting Marc Jacobs I always try and throw in a couple of unexpected models," Grand explained. "Last season it was Sky [Ferreira] so when Kendall Jenner's agent, Christopher Michael, called me and asked me to meet Kendall, I was intrigued."
And for those who might think she was a bit of stunt casting, not so -- Grand says that she was impressed by Jenner's dedication to the gig. "The second time [we met], we got chatting and I was surprised how intent she was about modeling -- just like all the other girls," Grand says. "She's a very cute girl, extremely pretty with big doe eyes and a very charming way about her."
So Grand brought Jenner back for a third time, where she met Jacobs and tried on the now-infamous sheer V-neck, which Grand said was American Hustle-inspired. "My first question to her was could we bleach her eyebrows. 'Yes,' she said, 'You can do anything.' And then later I asked about the sheer top and she was also fine with that."
Her transformation was so impressive that many editors didn't even recognize her -- and they weren't alone. "We laughed right before the show about how some of the other models had been coming up to her to tell her Kendall Jenner was in the show," Grand says. "Literally no one recognized her with her bleached eyebrows and the wig."
It seems like this is just the beginning of a beautiful friendship for the duo. "And then I thought it would be jolly if she took over the LOVE Instagram, so there you have it!" Grand explains. "My week with Kendall Jenner!"
