The Rodarte vs. Preen Star Wars Gown Edition

Both labels looked to the Force for fall 2014. What are the odds?

Rodarte had one of the most talked-about collections of fall 2014 New York Fashion Week, thanks to its finale of Star Wars-inspired gowns, featuring the likes of Luke Skywalker, C-3PO, R2-D2, the twin suns of Tatooine and the Death Star. Even though it all worked, the choice did seem somewhat random, even for designers -- and self-professed sci-fi geeks -- Laura and Kate Mulleavy.

Cut to Sunday at London Fashion Week, and, whoa, Preen did Star Wars too! Though designers Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi opted instead to showcase Darth Vader splashed across their dresses.

While Rodarte's take has a nice retro feel with the ruffles and washed-out colors, Preen's offering is decidedly modern, featuring kaleidoscopic prints and laser-cut-looking techniques. We never thought we'd have so much choice when it came to high-end clothing imbued with the Force, and have to admit it's a toughie. Though DV is arguably the coolest character of the bunch, so...
