The new LVMH Prize might be getting lots of buzz this year (the winner will be announced Wednesday), but let's not forget about the long-running ANDAM Fashion Award, which has helped springboard designers like Giles Deacon, Jeremy Scott and Martin Margiela, among others.
The organization, which counts Yves Saint Laurent co-founder Pierre Berge as its president, announced its 2014 nominees Tuesday. They are: Fausto Puglisi, Iris van Herpen, Etudes Studio, Rad Hourani, Jean-Paul Lespagnard, Steven Tai and Yiqing Yin.
ANDAM actually has both major French luxury groups involved: LVMH is listed amongst the award's sponsors, and the winner of The ANDAM Fashion Award (the main award) gets a full year of mentoring from Kering CEO Francois-Henri Pinault, as well as $342,000, a collaboration with Thecorner.com, a guarantee from Canada's Hudson’s Bay Company to purchase items from his or her spring 2015 collection, and a donation of crystals from Swarovski. Additionally, each finalist will be given makeup support by MAC Cosmetics and digital consulting from FashionGPS. ANDAM will also bestow someone with the lesser ANDAM First Collections Prize of $103,000.
It's a buzzy, promising and deserving group of designers: Puglisi's been getting a lot of editorial and celebrity placements lately and also designs for Ungaro; Van Herpen has received lots of attention for her blending of couture with tech and Hourani recently became the first unisex designer to gain haute couture status in France.
The winners will be announced July 3. Whom are you rooting for?
