Christopher Bailey's recent triumphs at the house of Burberry is the stuff of fashion industry fairy tales: Not only was he recently promoted to the dual role of CEO and chief creative officer at the British brand, but the company's profits are soaring, it's expanding its footprint in Asia and is set to grow its beauty business in a big way in the next year.
So, it seems fitting that Bailey found inspiration in literature for Burberry's resort 2015 collection. Pieces printed with sayings like "Rolling fields for rainfall and exploration" and "Rain or Shine" in quirky fonts recall vintage book covers found in flea markets. Dip-dyed lace and silk — in the form of trenches and floaty dresses — also have an aged quality, but will surely still appeal to the label's young fans.
Speaking of youth, the sheer, striped separates and fun textures — paillettes, fringes and mesh — bring the collection plenty of personality. While trenchcoats are an essential part of the lineup (as usual) and there are rain references aplenty in the printed pieces, we're willing to bet that there's nothing but sunny skies ahead for the booming Burberry.
