Though less dated than "cruise," the term "resort" imperfectly describes the collections designers ship to stores beginning in October. That's because most shoppers aren't buying clothes for island vacations, but (in the Western hemisphere, at least) for the autumn and winter seasons. Knowing this, some designers produce pants and wool coats, while others concentrate on holiday dresses.
However, some people do go on vacation in the winter (sometimes to resorts), so it's not unreasonable that a few brands put out swimwear -- Proenza Schouler even chose this season to launch swimwear for the first time -- and a lot of it looked pretty great.
