Rihanna Wore a See-Through Gown to the CFDA Awards

The singer, who was honored for her bold approach to style, debuted one of her boldest looks yet Monday evening.

At the CFDA Awards in Manhattan Monday night, Rihanna was recognized for her fearless approach to dressing -- and so perhaps no one should have been surprised when the singer showed up in a transparent beaded gown.

Rihanna wore a custom, crystal-embellished fishnet dress with matching gloves and headdress designed by young American designer Adam Selman and jewelry by another American designer, Paul Morelli. The dress was, to say the least, revealing -- Rihanna's breasts and bum were in full view, as was a nude thong, the only piece of clothing she wore beneath the dress.

"The point is to be audacious, even jaw-dropping or button-pushing -- and yes, we know she enjoys pushing buttons -- while remaining true to yourself," Anna Wintour said of Rihanna's approach to style when presenting her with the Style Icon award later that evening.

Rihanna, in her acceptance speech, noted that "fashion has always been my defense mechanism. Even as a child I remember thinking, 'She can beat me, but she cannot beat my outfit.'" She added, "And to this day I mean, that is how I think about it. I can compensate for all my weaknesses with my fashion."
