As a massive Bravo fan, I'm something of a "Real Housewives" apologist. Teresa Guidice accused of multiple types of fraud? A mistake, surely! Phaedra Parks's husband actually convicted of fraud? She couldn't possibly have known! Aviva Drescher throws her fake leg at a dinner? Well... she's kind of insane.
But this latest move, by former "Real Housewives of New York City" star and erstwhile talk show host Bethenny Frankel, is beyond even my reach. Frankel managed to squeeze herself into her toddler daughter's Hello Kitty pj set, and posted the results to her Instagram with the caption, "Think we're ready to start sharing clothes yet?" [cue facepalm]
Naturally, this set off a firestorm of complaints in the comment section. I was going to pick out a few but I think this one by @jellybellydreams does the best job of summing things up: "Bravo @bethennyfrankel this is such an accomplishment. Every mother can't wait for the moment where she can share her wardrobe with her daughter, and you've done it at size4T! Now that's amazing!! Kidding! We get it. You're freakn skinny, but THIS is the most horrid and moronic move you could have done. Embarrassed for you. [sic]"
In the interest of being fair, I once stuffed myself into a Halloween costume intended for a toddler -- photographic evidence here -- so it's possible to do even if you're not as thin as Frankel. And indeed, other commenters have chimed in arguing that the people getting upset are thin-shaming Frankel. Frankel herself took to Twitter to defend the photo. "When ur 4 year old peanut says 'mommy please put my dress on' & giggles uncontrollably, u do what ur told. [sic]," she wrote.
Still, it is a little bit disconcerting how well a 4T set of pajamas seems to fit Frankel. On the plus side, think of how much she must save shopping for herself in the kids section!
