If Milk Studios and the streets of SoHo are anything to go by, black dresses and white sneakers are the uniform of summer. Thus far, I've resisted the siren call of Stan Smiths -- something in me revolts at the idea of wearing something so "it" -- but not white sneakers altogether. It's not every day that something so comfortable also looks so right.
At the top of my list is Common Projects's white leather sneakers, but with so many good options in the $50-$100 range (hello Adidas, Nike, Superga, etc.), $375 seems like a little too much to spend. And so instead I'm revisiting an old staple -- Converse -- but this summer I'm choosing leather over canvas. (That makes me a bad vegetarian, yes, but given that people seem to be keeping their white sneakers so pristinely clean these days, it seems wise to choose the leather.)
Unlike, say, Keds, Converse tend to last more than a season -- which makes their $65 price tag seem like an especially sweet deal.
