Kate Spade Brings '60s Glamour to New Swimwear Line

Expect lots of bows and tongue-in-cheek idioms.

Kate Spade is one of the first names that comes to mind when we think of American lifestyle brands. It's doing everything these days, from bags to shoes to clothes to homeware, and the brand's optimistic vibe and cheery colors are especially well-suited for summer. Naturally, the brand is now getting into swimwear.

The company announced Wednesday that Deborah Lloyd, along with licensee Swimwear Anywhere, had conceived an inaugural Kate Spade swimwear collection of about 70 pieces to hit stores in November.

And it sounds like it will be very Kate Spade -- meaning, girly, clever, tastefully bold and subtly retro. Think mix-and-match separates and one-pieces in retro silhouettes, including bow-adorned bandeau tops, high-waisted bottoms, stripes, polka dots and gold charms with tongue in cheek idioms like “swan dive or cannonball?” As Llyod puts it, "It’s retro reimagined, classic with a twist, and pays homage to our heritage whether with a classic black and white stripe, a graphic dot or an artisanal print.”

Prices will be pretty reasonable, ranging from $120 to $200. We imagine many a Hamptons-bound New Yorker will be picking them up in droves come summer 2015.
