From the moment the blinds opened at the Louis Vuitton fall 2014 show, you knew something special was underway. What followed was a procession of wearable, flattering garments subtly modified and tailored to reflect a modern woman's needs and wants – but what else would you expect from Nicholas Ghesquiere?
Chief among the trends spotted on the Vuitton runway was the A-line skirt. Ghesquiere's creations ranged from minis to midis, paired with simple tops and statement jewelry to make the models look like masters of the French je ne sais quoi. Just a few months after the Vuitton show, Sofia Coppola wore an all-black Vuitton look at the Cannes Film Festival, and, well, the rest was history.
Stores began to stock, and maybe even overstock their A-line options. But with more choices, comes more confusion about how to style the retro-shaped skirt. We say take a note from the master, Coppola, and pair it with a scoop neck tank, simple jewels and some artfully mussed hair.
