As the mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio is going to boldly go where few mayors have gone before (no, not Italy): Fashion Week.
On Wednesday, the mayor is hosting a cocktail party at Gracie Mansion for the CFDA, according to WWD. Invites were sent out (sans dress code, gasp) to CFDA members, and the fête is seen as a way for de Blasio to fortify his commitment to the American fashion industry and the Garment District. His wife, Chirlane McCray is also expected to attend the Nanette Lepore show – Lepore made the dress she wore to her husband's inauguration.
Earlier this year, de Blasio spoke at the CFDA Fashion Incubator about his pledge to the garment industry and vowed to work to expand fashion in New York City. As a result, he has named his deputy mayor for housing and economic development, Alicia Glen, as a liaison to the fashion industry. He's following in the footsteps of former mayor Michael Bloomberg, who was also a big supporter of the culture and economy of New York's fashion scene.
No further details were available about the party being held, but from what we can presume, pizza will be served with forks.
