Every so often, it seems like everyone around us in the fashion industry is pregnant. Right now is one of those times.
Today, Glamour unveiled its September cover star, Olivia Wilde, who just gave birth to her first child, Otis Sudeikis, in April. The editorial is shot post-pregnancy, but she is pictured breastfeeding her son inside the magazine (while wearing head-to-toe Prada, by the way), which has already become a buzzy topic of discussion on the Internet. Young mothers like Miranda Kerr and Gisele Bündchen have caught some heat for posting glamorous photos of themselves breastfeeding their children over social media in recent months. The negative response has come from mothers who don't want to feel pressured to look perfect while taking care of their kids, so the Wilde shoot was a bold choice for the women's magazine — but we must admit, the actress does look pretty flawless.
Also featured in the September issue of Glamour is Doutzen Kroes, who gave birth to her daughter Myllena Mae (her second child) in July. The Victoria's Secret Angel sweetly cradles her belly, wearing a cozy-looking sweater dress. This shoot is in stark contrast to a similar one that V magazine published with Christina Aguilera last week (see below), which features the singer completely naked — and in a see-through white dress — showing off her full figure.
Models and celebrities posing while pregnant is certainly nothing new — everyone from Eva Herzigova to Cindy Crawford to Claudia Schiffer has done it, with varying degrees of nudity — but with these current editorials (and pregnant model Ashleigh Good closing the Chanel Haute Couture show in July) it kind of seems that the industry is telling us that motherhood is trending for fall.
