It’s nearly impossible to comprehend the manpower that is required to put on a six-minute runway show during Fashion Week unless you’ve taken part in the preparations yourself. (Trust me: I once spent the three nights before a major show fetching coffee at 3 a.m. for a designer and his team — these folks do not sleep.)
While getting this type of hands-on experience is rare, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville of Rag & Bone decided to give their fans a taste of the action behind-the-scenes with this short documentary, directed by Vern Moen. The timing is fitting, considering we are just about a month away from the label's spring 2015 show.
In the 14-minute clip, we see designers hand-staining denim for the runway, a peek into the fitting and styling process (led by Vanessa Reid), the conceptualization of the hair and beauty looks by Paul Hanlon and Gucci Westman, lots of last-minute alterations and — my personal favorite part — a backstage dance party with some of our favorite models, including Georgia May Jagger, Jessica Hart and Hanne Gaby Odiele. Rag & Bone had beer and freshly fried donuts available pre-show for the audience, and it's refreshing to see the models get in on the snacking action as well.
If you've ever wondered the scale of the production that goes into a Rag & Bone show (or a Fashion Week show in general), take the time to watch the documentary above — it's eye-opening.
