"Evian" may be "naive spelled backwards" -- thanks for bringing that to our attention all those years ago, "Reality Bites" -- but there was nothing happenstance about the latest collaboration from Kenzo masterminds Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, a limited-edition bottle based on a print from the French house’s David Lynch-inspired fall collection. On Sunday night, friends of the brand stopped by the old-school favorite VIP Room to celebrate the launch. An LED banner that read “evian + Kenzo" was projected on the nightclub’s wall as a trail of cool kids filled the dance floor. Bottles were scattered on tables and handed out at the bar, along with Peroni beer and Belvedere cocktails.
While there is plenty of buzz around this project, Evian’s connection to the fashion industry isn’t new. The French water company has commissioned bottle designs from Elie Saab, Diane Von Furstenberg, Issey Miyake, Paul Smith, Jean Paul Gaultier, Courrèges, and Christian Lacroix in the past. But it may have met its perfect match with Kenzo. “Carol and I are foodies, so the idea of having Kenzo bottles at restaurants and different markets is super appealing to us,” Leon told Fashionista. “We’re all about reaching out to everybody and having a brand that’s super welcoming, so this is just a great step for us.”
As for the rest of Paris Fashion Week, Leon said he’s going to stop by department stores Le Bon Marché (to check out Opening Ceremony’s shop-in-shop) and Printemps (to see Kenzo’s in-store installation). Obviously, Paris loves the duo just as much as they love it.
