I've recently become something of a lipstick convert. After years of experimentation with different shades of red, pink and even plum, I've found a small selection of lip colors that I switch between regularly — and that I keep in my handbag at all times.
While I had the bolder colors down, I didn't have an everyday, neutral option to reach for on my more casual days (aside from a colorless balm) until very recently. Makeup artist and co-founder of Rouge New York Rebecca Perkins introduced me to this mauve-pink lipstick by Julie Hewett that's relatively sheer, but still leaves a really pretty hint of color that works with nearly every skin tone. It's super lightweight and moisturizing — it contains camellia oil — and it makes me feel more put-together when I leave my apartment bare-faced on busy days.
Perkins told me that she can barely keep this color in stock (sorry guys, I snagged the last tube at Rouge last week), but luckily it's available for purchase directly from the brand. I suggest stocking up while you can.
Bijou lipstick in "Kiki," $22, available at Julie Hewett.
