Discovering models on social media is officially a thing. Last month, we told you about the launch of a modeling agency division dedicated to scouting "Instagram-famous" models. Further driving this point home: Guess founder Paul Marciano recently announced via Instagram that he found a model for an upcoming campaign on the social media platform.
He wrote, "Thats SIMONE!! @moannn i was talking about that i found on Instagram from Australia! She is 21 and now moved to Cal . She will shoot for Spring Marciano or Guess!"
We're still waiting to hear back from Guess's west coast PR team with details about the shoot she's been cast for, but here's what we do know: Her name is Simone Holtznagel and she has 24,418 followers on Instagram under the handle @moannn. Of course, she wasn't exactly plucked from obscurity. She is a model -- her Instagram bio lists the various agencies she's signed with -- and she even came in third on "Australia's Next Top Model" in 2011. Her Instagram content is a mix of selfies and photos of other attractive people. And, most importantly, she's a hot blonde bombshell, which pretty much makes her the perfect Guess girl.
This isn't the first time Guess has used social media to look for models. Last year, the label held a casting call on Facebook. A winner was chosen by popular vote.
Also, current Guess model Charlotte McKinney has over 140,000 followers and has said that she considers Instagram her portfolio. It appears that follower counts are just as important as body measurements for models these days.
