It's a Halloween miracle. Tilda Swinton -- actress, unconfirmed immortal, subject of a mesmerizing and hilarious parody Twitter handle -- has a new gig, as the spring face of Nars cosmetics.
Swinton has four ads in the works for the makeup line, the first of which will drop in January, the company says. Shot by François Nars himself, each features products from a different collection. The first focuses on the "Eye Opening Act" range.
This is great for a number of reasons. Swinton is the definition of an unconventional beauty icon, frequently hitting the red carpet with barely any makeup (hello, pale lashes) and a partially shaved head.
She's also 53, putting her in league with 68-year-old Charlotte Rampling, who modeled for Nars this summer, and 64-year-old Jessica Lange, a recent face of Marc Jacobs beauty. Giving older women high-profile placements like these is a good trend if there ever was one -- although, really, appreciating mature beauty shouldn't be a trend so much as a fact of life.
