Of all the adjectives you could use to describe my wardrobe, "sexy" is not one of them. Feminine, sure. Classic? Absolutely. (Boring, if you ask my sister.)
Needless to say, as much as I like the look of over-the-knee boots in fashion editorials and street style snaps of the industry's best dressed, I never planned on adding a pair to my closet. I'm still a little self-conscious about my thighs, and exposing (and thereby drawing attention to) the span of leg between my knee and mid-thigh never seemed like an appealing nor wise thing to do.
But on a recent shopping "trip" to Zara.com, I decided to pick up a pair of over-the-knee boots, just to see how they'd look with my go-to fluted J.Crew skirt, and I'm super glad I did. Not only did they completely change up the run-of-the-mill attitude and proportions of my everyday sweater-and-skirt fall ensemble, but they proved flattering, warm and, hey, a little sexy. And that, I've found, isn't such a bad thing.
Zara long leather boot, $269, available at Zara.
