There are moments in a girl's life for which she has her outfit planned in her head: Senior prom, her wedding day, presenting her baby (who happens to be a Prince) to the world, and the day she meets One Direction.
That day finally came for Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, on Thursday at the Royal Variety Performance. For the momentous occasion of meeting Zayn, Louis, Liam, Niall, and HARRY [heart-eye emoji here], Middleton chose a floor-length, black lace dress from Diane von Furstenberg, paired with a fancy, somewhat-matronly updo. It's certainly a tame option, though since she was with her husband and father to her children, William – who is a Prince, which I guess is cool? – I can't blame her for playing it safe.
If you're meeting One Direction anytime soon and want to look like the Duchess, 1) you can still buy the dress for $900 on Net-a-Porter and 2) take me with you please? (For the record, I would wear this Saint Laurent dress because it's cute and Harry wears a lot of Saint Laurent so we could match. Not that I've thought about it or anything.)
Harry Styles, who is a Prince in my heart, wore a leopard jacket (by Saint Laurent, natch) and black skinny jeans for the occasion. It was perfect. He also told The Mirror that he shared a few words with Middleton about her second baby.
"I said congratulations on the bump," he said. "(Though) she didn't look bumpy."
Deep, sensitive and well-dressed: I told you he's a prince.
