In advance of showing its 2014/15 Métiers d'art collection in beautiful, beautiful Salzburg on Tuesday night, Chanel has released an accompanying (and much-hyped) short film starring Cara Delevingne and Pharrell Williams as hotel employees transformed into reincarnations of European royalty. Who sing.
While the duo's performance of the song "CC the World" — an off-kilter but mesmerizing tune Pharrell wrote for the occasion — makes up the heart of the video, it's also a lesson in the French house's history. Staying at an Austrian hotel on holiday, Gabrielle Chanel (played by Geraldine Chaplin) takes notice of the jacket Pharrell's bellhop is wearing and decides to make a version of it for herself. That would be the structured little jacket Chanel is known for.
Other highlights: Jamie Bochert as Delevingne's scolding manager, Heidi Mount as a perfectly icy hotel guest (a role she's getting really good at) and Chanel favorite Baptiste Giabiconi as a waiter who gets on the wrong side of Delevingne's impish impulses. In fact, the film is basically a representation of the model's two personas: Smoldering, professional Cara and the goofy troublemaker who launched a thousand GIFs.
If you weren't already excited for Chanel's Paris-Salzburg presentation, this should get you in the mood. Delevingne, for her part, is jetting back from collecting the Model of the Year prize at the British Fashion Awards in London — on Karl Lagerfeld's private plane -- with Kendall Jenner. Just a normal day at the office, you know.
