When it comes to receiving gifts for the holidays, I'm someone who would rather just get gift cards or cash as opposed to an item I won't use. It just feels wasteful and I don't have room in my New York apartment for all of that clutter.
Another option is to send people a wish list, which is a little presumptuous. But since I work for a fashion publication and you're all probably really curious about what I'm wishing for this Christmas, here are a few things I very desperately want — and you might want, too — but probably won't be able to buy for myself anytime soon. If someone I know happens to see this and buy me something from it, that's just a bonus. Hint, hint.
1. Collection cashmere sweatpant, $288 on sale, available at J.Crew.
I've been traveling a lot lately but still haven't nailed down my comfortable-yet-chic travel look. All I'm sure of is that it should include cashmere sweatpants, which I don't yet have. Santa?
2. Mod Parka, $695, available at A.P.C.
Another thing I've been coveting for quite some time, and that actually is practical, is an A.P.C. parka. With simple details, a faux fur lined hood and quilted lining, it's my ideal everyday winter coat.
3. Marni ankle-strap d'orsay sandals, $489 on sale, available at Barneys.
I pretty much can't wear a heel without an ankle strap, so these are right up my alley. They're sweet yet sophistcated, and since they're in a neutral color, they'll go with everything from jeans to dresses once spring rolls around.
4. The Row Gibbons crepe dress, $950, available at Net-a-Porter.
I've been coveting one of The Row's slip dresses for a while now. It feels like a timeless wardobe essential (which sounds like ad copy, but whatever) that I can pull out and wear forever, at any time, for practically any occasion. At just under $1,000, it's really such a sensible choice that someone has to be getting it for me, right?
5. Mociun turquoise diamond circle ring, $656, available at Steven Alan.
My New Year's style resolution is to wear more jewelry, and to be a responsible enough person to wear nice jewelry without losing it. I think this adorable ring by Mociun is a good start. It's got a turquoise stone (one of my favorites) on one side and antique diamonds on the other, so it's basically two rings for the price of one.
6. Clare V. petit duffle in black velvet, $524, available at Need Supply.
If you couldn't tell, I like things that are versatile and minimalist. I've also been wanting a black leather duffle ever since Sofia Coppola first designed one for Louis Vuitton. This one's a little smaller than hers, and a lot more affordable.
