EBay has just released a list of some of its top-selling items of 2014, and unsurprisingly, pop culture played a big role in driving sales.
Among those zeitgeisty fixtures was the year's most ubiquitous family, the Kardashians. Balmain saw a 4 percent increase in popularity on the auction site compared to 2013, which eBay actually attributes to North West (who does have at least one custom Balmain blazer); though her mom, a big fan of Olivier Rousteing's dresses and the new face of the brand, also likely contributed. The site also sold about 5,000 items by Givenchy, who of course designed Kardashian's wedding dress.
However, according to the retailer, another celebrity's wedding dress drove more sales: Amal Clooney's Oscar de la Renta gown. About 11,000 ODLR items sold on the site this year, but some of that could also be attributed to the legendary designer's passing in October.
Other top sellers included mountain hats, up 43 percent compared to 2013 thanks to Pharrell; overalls, of which 530,000 pairs were sold; kids clothes by Cath Kidston thanks to Prince George and sneakers, which saw a 12 percent increase over 2013, thanks likely to the year's prevalent activewear trend.
Fitness also came first when it came to wearable tech: Over 370,000 Fitbits were sold compared to 25,000 Google Glasses.
