In October, Only the Brave (OTB) group announced that John Galliano would make his return to the design world as the new creative director of Maison Martin Margiela. Ever since, the fashion industry (and its followers) have been anxious to see what he'd bring to his debut during Couture Week in January -- but now Galliano and Margiela have strayed a bit from the original plan. Margiela has confirmed to Fashionista that John Galliano's first show will take place in London on Jan. 12 instead of during Paris Couture Week, which will begin two weeks later. The house added that it will still present during the official Paris Couture Fashion Week calendar on appointments.
Why would Margiela and Galliano want to show in London ahead of Couture Week? It's certainly not to get more attention -- the show already promised to be the most anticipated of Couture Week. It may in fact be the opposite: a way for the designer to ease back into presenting without the added pressure of the swarms of international press and industry insiders in town to take in all the shows. Whatever the reason is for the location switch, we're looking forward to seeing what Galliano has in store.
