The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's three-day visit to New York City has drawn to a close, leaving a wake of tweets and magical royal dust behind them. If the media attention and crowds of fans are any indication, American enthusiasm for the royal couple has not waned since their momentous wedding in 2011.
Now that she has partnered with a new, young stylist, we had hoped that Kate would take advantage of her trip to take some risks with her wardrobe or at least wear several American designers. But instead, she opted to wear mostly British designers, especially pieces from the maternity line Seraphine, and used coats not as a layer, but as a complete outfit to be worn indoors.
She sported only two garments from American labels: A Tory Burch coat and J.Crew jeans, both worn Monday evening to meet Hillary and Chelsea Clinton and then to a Nets game, where she looked a little uncomfortably formal with her coat on the whole time.
As far as coats go, the hot pink Mulberry style she wore to the 9/11 Museum and Memorial was easily our favorite. It was bright and uplifting for the somber visit and dreary day. And the Jenny Packham gown Kate wore to the black tie event Tuesday night was undeniably glamorous and flattering, especially for someone five months pregnant, but we have seen it on her twice already and are left a bit disappointed that she didn't choose a bolder look for her last night on the town.
