It's been a big week for Madonna. Days after her topless photo shoot for Interview went live, Versace released images of its spring/summer 2015 campaign starring the pop icon. A coincidence? Definitely not.
In the images, photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Madonna looks powerful and confident, signature parts of the singer's personality. It also highlights her incredibly toned physique, a fitting canvas for the body-conscious clothes she's advertising.
This isn't the first time Madonna has lent her face for the Italian house's campaigns. She appeared twice in 1995, photographed by Steven Meisel and Mario Testino, and in 2005 shot by Testino again -- both decades during which Madonna's music was at the top of the charts.
Her last album, MDNA, was released in 2012 and, except for an editorial in V with Katy Perry this summer, she seems to have taken a step back from public life in recent years as singers like Lady Gaga (who has also starred in Versace campaigns) have taken over the role she originated as pop provocateur.
But if these images are any indication, Madonna's ability to represent unbridled, female power has not diminished, even if she can't stir up controversy quite the way she used to.
