If kept pace with us during Fashion Month in September, you probably noticed that we got a little nostalgic for our favorite mid-2000s models when they made some surprise appearances on the runways — namely Gemma Ward at Prada, Sasha Pivovarova at Balenciaga and Abbey Lee (who's about to make her big screen debut in "Mad Max: Fury Road" this spring) at Hugo Boss. Now that the spring campaigns are steadily rolling out, we're happy to see that the trend has continued into print.
When the first images of Prada's spring 2015 ad campaign were released last week, we were thrilled to find that Ward was cast as one of the faces of the label for the season following her runway exclusive. She's shot in black and white by Steven Meisel, the very photographer who captured her in a Prada campaign over a decade ago for fall 2004 (see below).
Then, a preview of Balenciaga's spring campaign starring Sasha Pivovarova — whom Alexander Wang was able to book as a runway exclusive for this season's show — hit the web, and it really brought us back to the days when the doll-faced models ruled the modeling scene. To complete the trifecta, Caroline Trentini, who took a bit of time off to have her first child, is the spring face of Chloé.
Since the campaigns are still being unveiled, there's still time for these ladies' doll-faced peers -- Lily Donaldson, Jessica Stam or, if we're really talking wishful thinking here, Lily Cole -- to emerge as faces of the season and take us back to 2005 for real. It's like this season's best ads are one big #TBT, and we're pretty happy about it.
