'Downton Abbey' Season 5 Episode 2 Fashion Recap: The Rendezvous
Spoilers.
Thus far, season five of "Downton Abbey" has not disappointed, either in the plot department or the wardrobe department -- and the writers have done a good job combining the two. This week's best fashion-related plot point involved Lady Mary and Anna's conundrum about what to pack for the former's week-long sex trip with Lord Gillingham. (The struggle is real.) Also, based on the premiere, I had been afraid that Lady Rose was dressing a bit more drably this season, but she pulled out all the stops this episode, with elaborate hair, striking gowns and very good daywear.
Rose's Grey Day
Rose's daywear choices of momochromatic dove grey suit her complexion, making her look rosier than usual. The chunky beaded necklaces add that, "It's the 1920s!" touch.
Bye, Hot James
James is going to have absolutely no problem finding a new job, especially with that tie.
Lady Mary's Circles
The jewelry really stood out to me this episode, particularly this circular theme that Lady Mary subtly wore. Also, I'm inspired to start wearing my necklaces backwards -- back cleavage is so much more intriguing than the standard kind.
Lady Edith's Mommy Wear
Her outerwear is still perfect, although here's hoping she buys Marigold some sweaters that aren't so ratty.

"Well, I'll Have His Help"
Lady Mary shocks Anna multiple times in this scene, including making her go buy birth control. Here's hoping Anna gets a hefty Christmas bonus this year.
Lady Edith's Drab
I've questioned multiple times over the last several seasons why Lady Edith always wears clothes that match her hair. So far I haven't found out the answer, but here are two more examples.
Rose Gold
Another example of matching your dress to your hair color, but I like it here. I want to know why we never get to see Rose's maid doing her hair, though. That lady deserves some kudos.
Rose Green
I normally hate myself (I'm blonde) in green. This dress might make me rethink it.
Rose's Roses
Rose is wearing roses! And a hair comb that reminds me of something out of "Evita." Which is a good thing, obviously.
So What *Did* Mary Pack?
Here's hoping we get to see some interesting 1920s lingerie in next week's episode.
