How to Apply Self Tanner to Your Face

A step-by-step guide to going for the glow.

Beauty tutorials are big on YouTube — a search for "makeup tutorial" and "hair tutorial" yields more than 5 million videos. In this weekly series, we put a mix of popular and under-the-radar tutorials to the test and show you what's best.

I am SO pale right now -- and I hate it. I'm not one of those people who gets all glowy and ethereal in the wintertime; instead, my 'natural' skin tone is more on the sallow side of the spectrum. Just typing about it is making me sad.

Because of this, in the still-freezing months leading up to spring, bronzer and/or self-tanner is a must for me. Since my face has been looking nothing short of translucent recently, self-tanner makes the most sense, as it's the longest-lasting option. However, I always get really nervous about putting fake tanner on my face, because if you mess up, you're pretty much just walking around with orangey-brown streaks on your face for at least a week -- which, frankly, might be even worse than just embracing the paste.
