With just one measly week left before Fashion Week begins in New York, setting off a month of street style mayhem, we are placing our bets as to which items will be cropping up on the perfectly curated looks of attendees. There's no use lamenting the circus of photographers and attention-grabbing getups that exist outside every show. It's an inextricable part of fashion month and heck, there are even awards for it.
We've put together of list of coats, accessories and designers that are sure to be favorites this season. It's a combination of fall's flashiest accessories, spring and resort's most weather flexible pieces and even distinctive looks from pre-fall —reserved for those people with the most exclusive designer connections, or most social media followers.
FRESH FAUX FUR
Last year, pastel-colored coats were on the backs of many a fall show attendee. And while there are sure to be plenty of pink cocoon coats this year too, look for a new wave of coats in boldly printed or patterned faux fur with more muted color palettes. Ainea, with its spotted and striped faux fur coats, is a new label to watch, and Shrimps continues to be a blogger and editor favorite, now with a leopard print option.
RAINBOW BRITE VALENTINO
For its 2015 resort collection, Valentino presented a series of looks decked out head-to-toe in rainbow stripes, like Candy Land for the luxury shopper. Expect to see these bright accessories and shoes (weather permitting) on the hands and feet of shows' bolder guests.
Shearling has been big on the runways for the past two seasons, and Coach, now under the creative direction of Stuart Vevers, has led the charge. We'll be looking out for the label's shearling-collared bomber jackets and its shearling-line shoe from fall 2014, which has all the elements of a street style star — it's kind of weird looking but utterly fashionable. Plus it's actually appropriate for the icy sidewalks that will be unavoidable next week.
A new generation of graphic clutches from Poppy Lissiman and Yazbukey are the the ultimate street style photographer bait. Wear one, and you're guaranteed to get some attention and admiration.
CHANEL GROCERY ACCESSORIES
Chanel's fall 2014 show had such clever accessories around its grocery store theme. These crazy weird and crazy cute pieces are the most luxe photographer bait there is.
STELLA MCCARTNEY'S STAR FLATFORMS
Not only are flatforms an of-the-moment style, but Stella McCartney's star version from her fall collection actually looks like it would stand up to slippery weather conditions with that thick plastic sole.
Preen's Fox Fur Hat
MOSCHINO'S LATEST CRAZINESS
Moschino and Jeremy Scott love some instant street style gratification, so expect to see someone wearing the bright coats and bags from the label's latest pre-fall collection, inspired by rulers and measuring tape. And even though we've already seen a lot of the spring Barbie collection out on the streets, there are still plenty of other strong looks from the brand's spring show that could be spotted (particularly the more winter-appropriate gold lamé coat).
FENDI BAG BUGS + KARLITO
For pre-fall, Fendi showed additional iterations of its incredibly popular bag bugs and little monsters by adding puffs of fur to every kind of accessory, and developing colorful, furry backpacks perfect for carrying snacks to a show. And bloggers are sure to be spotted carrying Karlito iPhone cases as they shoot pictures from the front row.
